I recently had to move a copy of Windows 10 from an old PC to a new one and I couldn’t find my product key. I didn’t have it on the computer, on a certificate or even in my email, so I was kind of stuck. After talking with Microsoft about the issue, they told me I could simply link up my product key to my Microsoft account, which would basically make it into a digital license. ..

In this article, I’m going to show you how to link your Windows license to your Microsoft account for backup and safekeeping purposes. You won’t use it often, but when you need it, you’ll be glad it’s there.

In the Settings window, click on Accounts. Under “Sign-in options,” click on the link that says “Add an account.” Enter your Microsoft account login information and then click on the “Create an account” button. You’ll be asked to provide a name for your new account. Enter a name for your account and then click on the “Create an account” button. Once you’ve created your new account, you’ll need to add it to Windows. In Windows 10, 8.1, or 8, open Start and then type “accounts” into the search box. Activation

At the top, you’ll get some information about which edition of Windows you have installed and whether or not it is activated.

If the product key/license can be stored in your Microsoft account, you’ll see the Add a Microsoft account option at the very bottom. Click on Add an account and you’ll be asked to sign in.

If you don’t have a digital license for your product, you’ll see two other lines on the activation page: Product ID and Product Key. But there’s no way to add a Microsoft account. In these cases, it’s important to keep your product key safe–you can only activate Windows using that key. ..

If you have not linked your account, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Under “Personalization,” select “Accounts.”
  3. Select the account you want to link.
  4. Under “Activation,” select “Link an account.”
  5. Enter your Microsoft account email address and password, and click OK. If you have already linked your account, follow these steps:
