The app data is great, but you can export more detailed data to Excel and do whatever you like with it. For example, you could create charts and graphs showing which days the most energy is being used, how many hours the device is in standby mode vs on, etc.

In this post, I’ll talk about the process for exporting the data and then go over how the data is organized in the Excel spreadsheet. I’ll also show you how to make a quick chart to graph out the energy usage.

Export Energy Data from WeMo

The WeMo app will give you high-level energy usage data like how long the device was on today and on an average day, the estimated monthly cost, and the average wattage usage. ..

The Edit button at the top right of the WeMo app lets you change how data is displayed on your screen. The switches will change how they are displayed, and you should tap on the WeMo Insight switch to export all of your data to analyze on your own.

The Data Export option at the bottom of the screen is your best bet if you want to export your data. This will allow you to choose which data you want to export, as well as where you want to export it to.

To export your data:

  1. On the last screen of the app, type in your email address.
  2. Tap on Export Now.
  3. This will immediately send you an email with a CSV attachment containing all data for the device over the last 45 days. ..

If you want to keep your data for a longer period of time, you can schedule exports every day, weekly, or monthly. By exporting the data once a month, you will not lose any data if you forget to do it manually.

I suggest exporting the data every month to create a master worksheet that you can copy and paste into other spreadsheets.

The Export for devicename spreadsheet contains the data for a development project. The data is in CSV format, so you can open it in Google Sheets, Excel or other programs if you like. The spreadsheet has three tabs: Data, Tables and Charts. The Data tab contains the data for the development project. The Tables tab contains the table of contents for the spreadsheet. The Charts tab contains the charts that show how the data changes over time.

The WeMo Energy Cost report is a basic overview of the energy usage of a specific WeMo device and includes the last updated date and time, the MAC ID, signal strength, and energy cost per kWh. You can also change these values in the app on the screen where you tapped on Data Export. So if you’re looking to see how much your monthly energy bill will be based on this .111 value, but your energy costs may be different, this report is a good place to start.

The electric bill for my home is $2,812.06/year. This divided by the total kWh used (2,812,000/year) would give us the following result: $0.00 = The electric bill for my home is $0.00/kWh

So, to recap: -The WeMo device uses around 1830 kWh of electricity each month. -To calculate the cost of using this device, divide the amount of money spent on electricity by the number of kWh used. -This will give an estimate for how much money will be spent on this device each month. ..

You can adjust the threshold value, which dictates whether the device is on or in standby mode. By default, this value is set to 8 watts. If the device uses less than that, it is considered in standby mode. I’m no electrical engineer and I’m not really sure what the best value for that is, so I just left it at 8w. ..

Today’s usage summary: On: 5,811 kWh Standby: 1,521 kWh Avg. Power Consumption (On): 10,711 kWh Avg. Power Consumption (Standby): 9,812 kWh

The X axis is the date, and the Y axis is energy usage. The colors indicate how much energy was used on that day. The green line shows the average, while the red line is the highest. You can see that there’s a lot of variation in energy usage, as well as over time.

My refrigerator uses around .006 kWh when not running and jumps to about .012 kWh when cooling. It also alternates between these states all day and night. Usage by other devices will probably generate different looking charts.

If you decide to move your WeMo switch, reset it before doing so to ensure that the data collected from the old location is accurate. Otherwise, you’ll get data from two different devices, which will make the data useless unless you remember the exact day you moved the switch. ..

The WeMo Insight switch is a great option for data junkies who want to track multiple devices. Once you have a few weeks’ worth of data for one device, it’s not really going to change all that much, so you can then reset the data and start tracking another device.
